Pilot 2 at the al-Farabi Kazakh National University (P10)

“DECIDE” project Pilot 2 Observation

According to the plan of DECIDE project implementation, in May 18, 2022  al-Farabi Kazakh National University started classes on Module 2 and Module 4 for teaching and administrative staff of the university, librarians,  students and people from other relevant organizations in the frameworks of Pilot 2 in hybrid format to cover participants from other regions and locations of the country.

On June 23-24, 2022 partners  from European  universities Mr. Gerard P. Cullen (TUD, Germany), Mr. Sven Riddel (TUD, Germany), Mr. Jerald Cavanagh (Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, former LIT, Ireland), Mr. Padraig Kirby (Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, former LIT, Ireland), Mrs. Monica Bukowska (Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, former LIT, Ireland) visited al-Farabi Kazakh National University as observers of Pilot 2. 

The Module 2 and Module 4  were  developed by project team of the university in collaboration with colleagues from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Prior to work on Modules participants of the DECIDE project attended trainings in Dresden (TUD) and Limerick (LIT). These  trainings  at TUD and  LIT were  delivered by the EU partners of the  project and included: purpose, rationale and content of the DECIDE curriculum to include international Quality Standards and the requirements of international, Bologna agreement and ECTS Modular creation using the EU-TUNING system.

The Module 2 is elaborated   for wide range of specialists working in academic, governmental, and non-governmental sectors to provide knowledge and skills  in marketing theory and practice for organization of National Awareness Day in all three countries. The whole team from Kazakhstan organized NADs in 2020 and 2021  in online formats due to COVID- 19 pandemics. In 2022 NAD is planned to be organized in hybrid format but the question regarding format is still open because of uncertain epidemiological situation.

Module  4 is Access Liaison Officer Trainee Programme. It is targeted at all partners with inputs from all partners and the basis of the future Action Group. This training module was developed to  that each educational organization will have a specialized person in social integration and anti-discrimination measures on advising and assisting students or potential students with special needs in accessing education. This year Pilot 2 was organized in close collaboration with the Centre of Support of students with special needs of al-Farabi Kazakh National university

First day of the Pilot 2 was conducted  at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Care and gathered academic and administrative staff, including stakeholders who provide assistance in social protection of students with different types of needs. The Day 1 was prepared by Dr. Gainel Ussatayeva, Mrs Anar Mukasheva, and Mrs Ardak Seisembayeva.  They provided frameworks of the NAD, trainings on work with students with special needs, and helped participants to prepare final projects on NADs.

Day 2 of the Pilot 2 also was conducted at the  Faculty of Medicine and Health Care  and at the Centre of Services for Students in the frameworks of campus tour. Day 2 was prepared by Dr. Gainel Ussatayeva and Mr. Ilya Krugovykh. They provided theoretical and practical  frameworks for project work and also discussed with EU partners issues related to The Students Journey. How a Student with Disabilities can be `Just Another Student’ at the university, particularly at al-Farabi Kazakh National university.

After theoretical part participants presented their projects. They are:

  1. National Awareness Day (informing about alternative and additional communication).
  2. National Awareness Day (Sports and physical activity for people with disabilities and special needs)
  3. National Awareness Day (University of future without limits and limitations)

After closing and certificate ceremony EU partners and project team visited Centre of Services for Students “Keremet” (campus tour). The Centre provides different services for students: academic issues, international mobility, social issues, health care provision, entertainment (cinema, cafeteria), banking, laundry, and cleaning.
